EYFS Vision Statement – Onslow Infant School

At Onslow Infant School, our Early Years vision is to provide every child with a happy, nurturing and inspiring start to their school journey, where they feel safe, valued and excited to learn. Rooted in our whole school ethos of “Nurturing Confidence, Curiosity and Creativity”, we believe that every child deserves the opportunity to flourish academically, socially and emotionally in an environment where individuality, culture and heritage are celebrated.

Through strong relationships, meaningful play and high-quality interactions, we create a language-rich environment where children develop confidence, independence and a lifelong love of learning. We recognise that children learn best when they feel a true sense of belonging and when their interests, experiences and voices are valued. Our curriculum is carefully designed to be creative, ambitious and responsive, providing exciting opportunities for exploration, enquiry and discovery both indoors and outdoors.

At the heart of our Early Years provision is a commitment to developing the whole child. We encourage children to become resilient, respectful and responsible learners who are confident to take risks, solve problems, express themselves and think independently. Our values-led approach promotes kindness, friendship, honesty and positivity, helping children to understand themselves, build strong relationships and contribute positively to their community.

We believe in the importance of play as a powerful vehicle for learning. Through carefully planned continuous provision, woodland learning, storytelling, role play, creative experiences and hands-on exploration, children develop curiosity about the world around them and make meaningful connections in their learning. We foster communication and language through rich conversation, high-quality texts and purposeful interactions, ensuring all children have opportunities to thrive.

Partnerships with families are central to our vision. We value parents and carers as children’s first educators and work closely together to support every child’s development and wellbeing. By building trusting relationships and celebrating achievements together, we create a strong foundation for lifelong learning.

Our aim is for every child to leave Early Years as a confident, capable and enthusiastic learner who feels proud of who they are, respects others and is fully prepared for the next stage of their education.
