Starting arrangements for children in Early Years

Arrangements for Starting school in September 2017

We have a comprehensive transition programme for the children, which involves the teachers visiting your child’s nursery, a stay and play session, a class visit during the morning and the opportunity to stay for an early lunch, as a way of introducing them to our school.

Visit to School

Your child is invited to come into school for the morning or afternoon of Wednesday 28 June for a one hour ‘stay and play’ session. The children will also be invited to meet their teacher, teaching assistants and their classmates on Wednesday 5 July. We will be able to give you the exact times for your child to come to the ‘stay and play’ session once we have liaised with pre-schools and nurseries etc.

Parent Meeting – Wednesday 5 July, 9:30-11am

There will be a meeting for parents whilst the children are meeting their teacher on Wednesday 5 July in the School Hall.  The EYFS teachers and I will talk to you about what you can do to prepare your child for school and the routines of the school day.  There will be the opportunity for you to look around the school, to meet various members of staff, the PTA and governors, and to have any queries answered.  There will be a display of the school uniform which will need to be ordered online ahead of your child starting school. (The school office has a limited selection of uniform items that you may purchase whilst stocks are still available, you may also like to look through a selection of second hand uniform at the same time.)

Starting School

Home visits will take place in September, during the first week of term.  Your child will start school the following week, on Tuesday 12 September, with a phased induction: 9-11:45am on Tuesday and Wednesday, and staying for lunch on Thursday and Friday, 9-1:20pm. The children will then be expected to stay full time from Monday 18 September.
