Arrangements for Starting school in September 2018
We have a comprehensive transition programme for the children, which involves the teachers visiting your child’s nursery, a stay and play session, a class visit during the morning and the opportunity to stay for an early lunch, as a way of introducing them to our school.
Visit to School
Your child is invited to come into school for the morning or afternoon of Wednesday 27 June for a one hour ‘stay and play’ session. You should have received an email informing you which session your child is invited to attend. During this session, you and your child will be able to visit both Reception classrooms and the outside learning area to allow your child to explore and become familiar with their new surroundings. They will have the opportunity to interact with the Early Years staff team and some of the other new Reception children and parents.
Class Allocation – Friday 29th June 2017
On Friday 29th June, you will receive an email informing you which class your child will be placed in for September. This email will also let you know who their teacher and teaching assistant(s) will be. Your child will be in Rabbit or Owl Class as we have two Reception classes next year. Please note that the decision about which class your child is in is final and is based on our in-depth discussions with nurseries, pre-schools and through our observations of the children during the stay and play session. We do try to place children with at least one friend they know, so please let us know of any, using the slips provided on the stay and play day.
Class visit day – Friday 6th July 2017, 9:30-11am
Please bring your child to the main school office again at 9.30am and you will be taken to your allocated class. You may leave them as soon as they are settled (if your child is upset it is probably best for you to leave them with a staff member – we know this is hard but we find the sooner you leave them, the sooner they settle!) Please then make your way to the hall to grab a tea or coffee and get to know the other parents/carers in your class. Our Head Teacher Miss Donlon will be available for you to speak to during this time. We will also have uniform and PTA stands. The class teachers will also join you to talk you through some important starting arrangements and school information.
At 11am, you may pick your child up from their class and you are welcome to stay and have lunch in our hall. This is a great way to show your child that the food is tasty and it has proven to alleviate any lunch worries in the past. Please complete aTransition lunch form and return it by 27th June so that we have an idea of the number of meals to prepare. Infant school children’s lunches are currently free when they attend school, however on this induction day the lunch will cost £2.25 per meal.
Home visits will take place in September, during the first week of term. Your child will start school the following week, on Wednesday 12 September, with a phased induction: 9:00am-11:45am on Wednesday and Thursday, and staying for lunch on Friday, 9:00am-1:20pm. The children will then be expected to stay full time from Monday 17 September.
